Verity Currie - The last day

£350.00

Oil on cradled wood panel
24.5 x 35 cm
2026

As a painter I use personal archive in my work to explore the ideas of memory and passing moments. I often use non-local colours which helps to echo the unreliability of memory and the complicated process of reflecting on our sense of identity when looking at images of the past. I like to consider how identity is continuously shaped through looking back on our pasts by recollection, distortion of memories and also the feelings and emotions that consequently arise. In these works I invite viewers to think about the impact of memory on our sense of self. Through the process of painting the work and the memory of the past is not so much preserved as revised and revisited.
