Watercolour on black ground on canvas
76 x 61 cm
2026
I use watercolour because of its versatility and immediacy, which is how I like to work. It also offers the challenge to use a traditional medium in a non-traditional way. I prepare my own ground to be able to use the watercolour on canvas/linen. I work quickly, referring to poetry, history, literature as well as from my own personal experiences. When I paint, I use my intuition as much as external references. The black ground acts as a space for the bold colours I use. It also represents a liminal space, non-linear, magic, God, dreams and memories. The colours I work with exaggerate the space as somewhere beyond and other. The final pieces which evolve are outside language/reason. I work into and over the initial image using line. This shifts the painting offering change and movement.
