Lucy Spanyol brings a painter's sensibility to questions of narrative, ambiguity and visual psychology. Her dreamlike paintings occupy the space between figuration and abstraction-where loose forms, strange figures and internal logic emerge through process, memory and intuition. Whether gently comic or quietly disquieting, her images suggest rather than explain, inviting the viewer into unstable symbolic spaces. She was awarded the Schmincke Prize (2024) and Daler Rowney Prize (2025) and this year has won the publicity prize at the Royal Watercolour Society Open. She holds an MA from Chelsea School of Art.
