My paintings navigate the strangeness and vulnerability of living in a body, excavating the deep sensory experiences that shape our physical and psychic selves. Meaning emerges through metaphor, symbol, and the material behaviour of paint itself. I'm drawn to paint's potential to encode and evoke sensation - how a nervy scratch can suggest wounding, a cakey texture inertia, a soft pink tenderness. Through ambiguous bodily forms, I explore ideas of containment and release, as figures stretch, melt, nest or erupt under visible internal and external forces. Both architects and victims they are suspended in elemental, heightened spaces. At first glance, the compositions may appear bold and outward-facing, but they invite an intimate encounter. Felt experience is embedded in my surfaces, through texture, mark, sheen and colour, striking different emotional chords. Material tensions echo the intricacies of an implicitly female experience, while resisting narrative closure, seeking to provoke a charged encounter.
