Gethin Evans - Pompeii 3

£3,800.00

Oil on linen
70 x 50 cm
2025

I'm drawn to the synthetic colouration of the modern spaces of the world I inhabit and experience. Overall my subject is 'the incidental' - figures in streets and cafes, at work or leisure; a light falling across a doorway casting abstract shapes; rubbish bins in a strong Mediterranean light; a dilapidated burnt out car in London's East End; a Palestinian flag hanging from an abandoned building; a figure wandering amongst the ruins of Pompeii - are all recent paintings dealing with the vernacular of everyday urban living. I am as influenced by street photographers like William Eggleston and Harry Gruyaert as I am by the paintings of Pierre Bonnard and Edward Hopper. Apart from being selected for last year's Soho Open, recent exhibitions include 'In The Footsteps Of the East London Group' at Bow Arts, 'Mysterious Dialogue' at Pictorem Gallery (curator) and Summer Exhibition at Celf Gallery Cardiff.
