Oil on canvas
64 x 64 cm
2025
I am a London-based oil painter originally from the North East of England. I completed a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Middlesex University. My work explores themes of identity, sexuality, and my own personal experiences within queer culture. Having aphantasia - the inability to visualise in my mind's eye, many of my paintings have no set starting point and are created fresh onto the canvas where they continuously evolve in no predetermined way. This approach creates a tension between the factual and the visual using expressive and layered mark making. Rather than capturing visual truths, my paintings focus on intimacy, and the joys, fears and frustrations that it can bring.
Gavin has exhibited throughout the UK, and his work is held in several private collections.
