I primarily make oil paintings on either stretched canvas or wood. My work is rooted in observation and drawing, always filtered through memory and imagination. Most of my paintings are of people I know, either as direct portraits or as constructions of figures. My work is my deeply felt response to everyday moments that have stuck in my mind and I keep returning to. I like the attempt to capture or recover a moment lost in time, recreating it and giving it space to become something new. I am inspired by day-to-day life and I want to depict normality and capture in paint the beauty of normal people doing normal things. I am interested in human relationships and connection and the narratives created by arrangements of figures on the canvas.
