Charlie Chrobnik - Watchful Eye

£2,000.00

Oil and acrylic on raw canvas
60 x 80 cm
2026

My painting process is about vulnerability and catharsis. I focus on personal narratives that talk about an experience of loss, identity, effeminacy and memory. The figures in my paintings aren’t always straight portraits but stand-ins of myself and loved ones in domestic environments and gardens. I collect found images, childhood photographs and my own images as source material and assemble them whilst painting. Collaging these images so disjointedly means the figures and environments I paint are fragmented, they always have something missing - so they lean into the surreal and dreamlike. My hope is the honesty and vulnerability I try to impart within my work allows the person engaging with it to channel their feelings into it and that that is cathartic.
