Brian Cheeswright is an Artist working between the mediums of painting and drawing. He is interested in the material qualities of his chosen medium and how they can work with and against initial ideas and the surprises that can occur when one surrenders to the unconscious.
He considers his work as autobiographical in that it deals with the frustrations, pleasures, the isolation and peaks and troughs of being a Painter, of being poor, of making mistakes and healing trauma, of sometimes wondering what one is doing and other times being overwhelmed by the sublime of the everyday. He has always worked on the spectrum between abstraction and figuration and one of the important tensions in the work is where that might be at any given time. Figuration being more about being in the world, while abstraction about the interior landscape.
