Oil on linen canvas
82 x 140 cm
2026
I create oil paintings of vast, sweeping landscapes that explore the poignant tension between nature’s sublime beauty and its growing fragility. Nominated for the Stage 2 Shortlist of the 2025 John Moores Painting Prize, my practice reimagines historical landscape traditions through a contemporary lens of invention, memory, and interpretation to construct semi-abstract topographies. Using environmentally conscious materials, I adapt classical value techniques alongside the atmospheric principles of the Hudson River School artists to build luminous, layered grounds on linen canvases. My paintings expand the spatial presence of the terrain, confronting the viewer with the raw vastness of the environment. Driven by concerns regarding human encroachment on nature, these ethereal, meditative paintings urge a critical pause to contemplate environmental preservation.
