These vital, luminous contemporary landscapes walk a line between the real and imagined. Ange creates a space where we are invited to connect with nature; barefoot in the grass, our palms on warm granite rock.
The paintings are a response to a landscape the artist knows well, the lakes, forests and skies of a vast Scandinavian terrain. They are imbued with intimate experiences and memories of place.
Woven threads of paint appear like textile or tapestry and morphing; playful apparitions of trees carve up the horizon. Colour and form knock, jar and settle against each other, a tangle makes a whole.
At once expansive and yet quietly interior these paintings sit between worlds.
We recognise this place, invited in by familiarity and the promise of escape. They have the mystery of a creeping fairy tale, of longing and melancholy, dressed up in the fabric and costume of colour and light.
