Oil on clothing

Gone Girl takes a repurposed canvas of loose-fit pre-loved clothing, coated with meaty impasto brushstrokes in corrupted fleshy colours. This abstract aesthetic is used to render a personal memory of a loved one, friend or foe, & fuse this with a self-reflective non-representational likeness. I am interested in portraying the lustre of human presence, trace elements of lost moments, memory and sensual presence. These patterned paintings are figments, embodiments of trace elements of memory and matter, sensual presence embedded within a tarnished decorative motif surfacing through an erupted imperfect skin of paint.
My paintings explore a confection of degraded beauty, enduring, imperfect and time worn. As abstract tropes for portrait-self-portraits they deflect social media’s digital dominance of surface values and the contemporary culture of magazine perfect cosmetics of skin.
