Oil paint on canvas
30 x 75 cm
2026
At the core of my practice is memory, and how the memories we accrue over a lifetime affect how we see the world. I take images from cinema, tv shows, hazy visions from childhood, and try to place them in the world. These images build up, sometimes they're strange and sometimes comical, stretched to the point of being unrecognisable.
Recently this has been with images of horses, which I have blown up in scale, disassembled, and left to become a part of the landscape. I paint horses in part because I live in a land filled with them. Horses litter the countryside, they're etched into stones and dug into the ground, with giant chalk horses carved into hills, or etched into cave walls. The horse forms a timeless link between us and those who came before us, and I want to continue this link and push it into the future.
